For court reporters, the most commonly used custom dictionary is from a CAT system. When you are reporting a trial that includes many specialized terms, you can import the dictionary from your CAT system into the E-Transcript Manager Editor. For instructions, click the following link: Adding Custom Dictionaries.
You can also create a custom dictionary as a text file and import it. The only rule for a custom dictionary is that it can have only one line per term. For example, you could create a custom dictionary called tech_jargon.txt and import it as a custom dictionary:
ASCII
XML
PTF
DPI
LPI
OCR'd
OCRing
The above terms are commonly flagged by Check Spelling. Adding a custom dictionary that contains these terms enables Check Spelling to skip them automatically. If your case includes hundreds of specialized terms, a custom dictionary can save you a lot of time when checking spelling.
