You can add documents (for example, graphics or .pdf files) specific to a project into RealLegal Binder.
Use the following procedure:
On the main toolbar, select Document from the New button drop-down list. The Document Files dialog box opens.
Click the Add button and then navigate to the file you want to import, for example, a photograph with a .jpg extension. Click the Open button to add the file to import and return to the Document Files dialog box.
Notes about importing PDFs:
If you opened a PDF file to import, a PDF Options button appears on the Document Files dialog box. Click the PDF Options button to set the conversion options. To read the recommendations and options for adding a PDF, click the following link: Show Me the PDF Options Information.
You can only import PDFs one at a time.
To add more documents, repeat Step 2.
Click the Next button. The Document File dialog box opens.
Enter the document information.
Notes:
You can enter whatever information you want to include in any of the fields in this dialog box. Fields that include a drop-down list allow you to select and, in this instance, add information. The information you type in a drop-down list is retained and, therefore, is available in the future when you import new documents.
The OCR option enables Optical Character Recognition, a feature that allows Binder to search for words in scanned memos and photographs. The option is active only if you have registered the OCR engine. For more information, click the following link: Overview of Optical Character Recognition.
Click the Next button. The Mark the Document dialog box opens
Complete the fields and options as follows:
Exhibit: If the document is an exhibit, click the Exhibit check box and enter the exhibit number, if known.
Transcript: If the document is referred to in a transcript, click the Transcript check box and enter the information. Clicking the Transcript check box enables the Page and Line options as well.
Page and Line: The Page and Line options relate to RealLegal Binder's ability to link a document to a specific part of transcript. For example, if you import a document called exhibit 831 that is mentioned on page 9699, line 3 of a transcript, you can enter those values. RealLegal Binder creates a hyperlink on the page and line number that you specify. Later, as you browse the transcript, you can click the hyperlink to view exhibit 831. After you import a document, you can link it to multiple places in transcripts as well. For more information refer to the Searching and Linking topic.
Prefix: For the Prefix field, you can sort information in RealLegal Binder by what you enter. For example, you may want to enter P for Plaintiff, D for Defendant, or G for Government based on the type of exhibit. Then, when those transcripts are listed in RealLegal Binder, you can sort them based on their prefix.
Full Title: For the Full Title field, accept what RealLegal Binder places in the field or type a title. The Full Title field identifies the transcript in the Details pane.
Click the Finish button.
