Overview of Realtime

RealLegal Binder’s Realtime feature allows you to connect your computer to that of a court reporter and receive, as well as quick mark, transcripts as the court reporter enters testimony into the CAT system.

The Realtime Demo

A demo of Realtime is available. To view the demo, select the New Realtime Transcript button from the New button drop-down menu, accept the license agreement, and select File from the Source drop-down list, and then follow the directions on the dialog box. For detailed instructions, refer to the Adding Realtime Transcripts topic.

Realtime Features

You can annotate and apply issue codes to Realtime transcripts. You can review annotations and issue codes at a later time. While a Realtime transcript is scrolling to your machine, you can, using the Split Horizontal or Split Vertical options, view two transcripts at the same time to compare differing testimony on a single subject.

Connecting

Connecting a computer for Realtime requires a basic understanding of computer hardware. For example, you should reference your manual to learn what a serial port is, what it looks like, and where it is on your machine.

After you reference the manual, a visual inspection is also helpful; that is, look at the adapter you want to plug into a machine, note the pattern of the plugin, look at the back of the machine where you intend to plug in the adapter, and locate a serial port that looks similar to the one on the adapter.

Caution: If the plugin does not easily snap into place, do not force it; you may break the port.
