Enabling OCR and Searching for Text in a Scanned Document

The procedure below uses the RealLegal Binder's Demo project. Using the Demo project is recommended. If you cannot find the Demo project, you can use any project that has a scanned document in it.

  1. Open the Demo project.

  1. Select Tools à Advanced à OCR Status from the menu bar.

Note: If OCR Status is inactive (it is gray and you cannot click it), it means you have not registered OCR. Click the following link for more information: Registering OCR.

  1. Click the Select All button.

  2. Click the OK button to close the dialog box. RealLegal Binder incorporates the scanned documents into its database, as demonstrated by the OCR Progress window that opens temporarily.

  3. Click the Search button () on the main toolbar. The Current Search Properties dialog box opens.

  4. In the Search phrase field type benzoate.

  5. Click the Discovery tab.

  6. Under the Search Group heading, click All Documents.

  7. Click the Report tab.

  8. Click Create Report and type a name and description. It is not necessary to click Read-only. Use that option for important reports that you do not want anyone to change.

  9. Click the OK button. Sections of the report are listed in the Details pane.

  10. To move to a different section of the report, click the section in the Details pane or click the navigation buttons () at the top of the Details pane.

  11. To e-mail the report, click the Send button () on the Display pane toolbar and follow the instructions on the screen.
