RealLegal - Exemplaris Press Release

Bryant, Stewart, Blake and Williams Cases Go Online
Official Court Transcripts of Kobe Bryant, Martha Stewart, Robert Blake, and Jayson Williams Proceedings Available for Immediate Download from RealLegal® Exemplaris™ at www.reallegal.com

DENVER (January 6, 2004) - Denver-based RealLegal, LLC, which develops litigation and practice management software for legal organizations, today announced that RealLegal Exemplaris, its online transcript repository, was selected to house the electronic transcripts for several prominent trials, including People of the State of Colorado v. Kobe Bean Bryant, United States of America v. Martha Stewart, People of the State of California v. Robert Blake and People of the State of New Jersey v. Jayson Williams.

The official court reporters creating these transcripts have authorized RealLegal Exemplaris to manage the distribution of the transcripts to judges, media and other interested parties. The official court reporters will release the transcripts of all trial proceedings daily to RealLegal Exemplaris for upload and distribution.

RealLegal Exemplaris was also recently chosen to store and distribute transcripts from the People of the State of California v. Scott Lee Peterson trial, as well as those from the impending trial against Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. for the alleged kidnapping and murder of University of North Dakota student, Dru Sjodin. The demands of high profile cases has lead to greater adoption by State and Federal courts of online archives as their storage and distribution system for transcripts.

The nature of the Bryant, Stewart, Blake and Williams cases, coupled with judges’ decisions to prohibit cameras in the courtroom, is expected to spur a significant demand for the official transcripts for these cases. Attorneys, judges, media and the public can search RealLegal Exemplaris at no cost. Transcripts can then be purchased online at the court-mandated page rates and immediately downloaded.

“Housing the transcripts on [RealLegal] Exemplaris is a viable solution to simultaneously meet the demands of the court, the media and the public,” says Bill Feid, president and chief executive officer for RealLegal, LLC. “Online access to the official transcripts supports the judges’ interest in protecting the integrity of the trials by prohibiting cameras in the courtrooms; it fulfills the public’s demand for the information; and it protects the court reporters from hundreds of requests for the transcripts from media organizations and private citizens.”

Presiding Judges and Brief Case Details

Former NBA star Jayson Williams has been charged with manslaughter for the 2002 death of chauffeur, Costas Christofi. Following Judge Edward Coleman’s decision to change the venue, the trial is now scheduled to begin in January 2004 in Somerset County.
