Web-based Service Provides Interested Parties with Instant Access to Proceedings
DENVER (November 6, 2004) - Aurora, CO-based RealLegal, LLC, a developer of court reporting, litigation and practice management software, today announced that its Exemplaris™ technology has been selected to manage the electronic distribution of the official transcripts from the United States of America v. Philip Morris, Inc. trial, which began on September 21, 2004.
RealLegal Exemplaris, a web-hosted application for managing the storage of official court records, will enable media, legal professionals and other interested parties to easily access certified electronic trial transcripts around-the-clock.
The Philip Morris action was filed to recover health care costs paid for by the federal government for tobacco-related illnesses, allegedly caused by the fraudulent actions of defendants, and to restrain defendants and co-conspirators from future unlawful conduct. Judge Gladys Kessler of the District of Columbia is presiding over this trial.
The Federal official court reporters assigned to the Philip Morris case will release the transcripts of all trial proceedings to RealLegal Exemplaris as they become available each day. Any interested party may search the entire RealLegal Exemplaris database for free by visiting www.exemplaris.com. Transcripts from the Phillip Morris proceedings can be located by searching for case number: 1999CV02496 or "Philip Morris". Users have the option to purchase and download the complete transcripts immediately. The transcripts are available at the traditional court reporter page rate and can be purchased online with a credit card.
RealLegal Exemplaris has already been used in many other high profile trials including the Scott Peterson, Kobe Bryant, Arthur Andersen, United Airlines, K-Mart, and eBay matters, to manage the storage and distribution of the transcripts of the proceedings. The system eliminates the wait times associated with acquiring paper transcripts or placing orders directly with the assigned court reporter, and it makes critical information available almost instantaneously.
Transcripts are delivered in the RealLegal E-Transcript™ format, with the E-Transcript Viewer that provides an accurate, encrypted, virus and password protected electronically signed transcript. No special software is needed to open, view or search an E-Transcript file. Additionally, E-Transcript provides enhanced view, search and print capabilities that make transcripts easier to navigate.
